The Morphing Road
This album was in development hell since about 2021 after finishing "Navigation Station", but I finally managed to get it together into a cohesive project three years later. In keeping with my tradition of theming all my albums, especially my Verdris albums, The Morphing Road is a 'night' album - the pieces are variously inspired by falling asleep, struggling to fall asleep, recurring dreams, the moon, images of towns and cities after dark, and night-time plane journeys.
My original idea was that this would be a relaxation album, more along the lines of ambient electronica deliberately designed as a sleep aid. As I find is so often the way though, the project changed direction and my intent for it evolved, and it ended up becoming a new Verdris album instead, much more cathartic and heavy-going. It doesn't tell a story per se, but I definitely think, apart from the night theme in itself, the album's also about hacking through nightmares and confusion in order to get a really good peaceful, restful night's sleep (not an easy thing to come by in my experience!).
